A tragic shooting erupted on Monday inside a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper that houses the NFL headquarters and several major financial firms, including Blackstone and KPMG, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured, according to a law enforcement source.

Among the confirmed fatalities was an off-duty officer of the New York Police Department, while the three others were civilians, the source told Reuters.

The gunman, whose motive remains unclear, was later found dead within the building, according to a separate update by the NYPD on social media platform X.

The fallen police officer was reportedly working a paid security detail at the time of the attack, various media outlets revealed.

In a video posted on X, New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the incident, saying there were “multiple injuries” resulting from the shooting.

Shortly afterward, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch also took to X, confirming that “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

The New York Post, citing sources familiar with the case, reported that the shooter was wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with an AR-style rifle when he opened fire inside the Park Avenue office tower.

The newspaper stated five people were killed, including the NYPD officer and six others sustained injuries before the gunman turned the weapon on himself.

It also indicated that the suspect at one point barricaded himself, possibly on the 32nd floor.

CNN reported that the deceased included a police officer, three civilians, and the shooter.

The gunman was preliminarily identified by several news organizations as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas.

CNN and other media published an image shared by police showing the suspect entering the building with a rifle in hand.

Officials stated that preliminary checks revealed no significant criminal history associated with the individual.

Located at 345 Park Avenue, the skyscraper is home to the headquarters of the NFL and several financial institutions, including Blackstone and KPMG.

No motive has been publicly disclosed by authorities.

Reuters reporters at the scene described a large police presence surrounding the tower in the aftermath of the shooting.

“I just saw a lot of commotion and cops and people screaming,” said Russ McGee, a 31-year-old sports bettor who had been working out at a nearby gym.

The FBI confirmed that agents from its New York field office were dispatched to support the ongoing investigation.
