Police officer killed in Gombe hit-and-run crash

The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Clement Yunana, who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident on Wednesday evening.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the late officer served with the Railway Police Outstation under the Bajoga Division.

The fatal accident reportedly occurred at about 5:00 pm near the Matrix Filling Station in Tumfure, located within Akko Local Government Area of the state.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that an unidentified vehicle, travelling from the Bauchi Road axis toward Gombe metropolis, struck ASP Clement Yunana while he was attempting to cross the road,” Abdullahi stated.

The driver, without stopping to assist, fled the scene, leaving ASP Yunana with life-threatening injuries.

“Yunana was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was later pronounced dead,” he added.

In response to the incident, the police have opened a full-scale investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending the driver responsible.

“The police have launched a full-scale investigation and are working to trace and identify the driver and the vehicle involved.”

The command also urged members of the public to volunteer any relevant information that could help solve the case.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, and the entire Gombe State Command extend their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer,” the statement read.
