The University of Jos has dismissed widespread rumours on social media suggesting a bomb attack targeting the institution and certain areas within Jos metropolis.

The school has called for calm, urging the public to disregard any unverified reports.

The source of the public alarm was traced to an internal security memo that was mistakenly circulated beyond its intended audience.

According to the University, the document was a routine advisory created for campus security operatives to boost vigilance and implement precautionary measures.

In a formal clarification, the University’s management emphasized that there is currently no credible threat to the safety of its community.

The administration reaffirmed that the learning environment remains secure and conducive for all academic operations, with a continued commitment to safeguarding students, staff, and campus visitors.

Reassuring the public, a statement issued by Abdullahi Abdullahi, Senior Deputy Registrar (Information and Publications), stated that the University is maintaining close coordination with the Plateau State Police Command and other relevant security bodies to ensure ongoing peace and safety in and around the campus.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to refrain from sharing unverified information that may incite unnecessary fear,” the statement read.

The University further appealed to the public and members of the UniJos community to depend solely on updates released through official channels, such as the University’s website: www.unijos.edu.ng.

While reiterating that proactive safety measures are being reinforced across campus, the University assured that there is no reason for alarm and confirmed that all academic activities are continuing as planned.
