The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations raised in a viral video by a retired Superintendent of Police concerning the welfare and retirement benefits of police pensioners.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, which instructed the NPF Pensions Limited to urgently examine the claims, identify any shortcomings, and take necessary corrective actions.
“The Nigeria Police Force is not insensitive to the plight of its pensioners, many of whom dedicated their lives to the service and safety of our nation,” the statement read. IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the welfare of both active and retired personnel remains a top priority for the Force, noting that efficient and timely pension administration is crucial for maintaining morale and upholding the institution’s integrity.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts to improve the pension system, Egbetokun stated that constructive feedback like that shared in the viral video plays a vital role in driving necessary reforms.
“The IGP reassures all officers, both serving and retired, and their families of the Force’s unwavering commitment to improved welfare and to building a system that honors their sacrifices,” the statement continued.
The police chief appealed for calm among all stakeholders, particularly affected pensioners, as the NPF Pensions Limited collaborates with relevant agencies to investigate the matter and implement sustainable solutions.
