The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has summoned key officials in Ahoada East Local Government Area following a violent attack on the LG Administrator, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, allegedly orchestrated by aides under his own administration.

The incident, which occurred on June 20, saw Iheanachor reportedly assaulted by over 30 hoodlums, allegedly led by the Chief Security Officer and Chief of Staff to the Administrator.

The attackers are said to have forcibly taken official documents, his mobile phone, and compelled him to sign a resignation letter under duress.

A viral video circulated online shows Iheanachor surrounded by unknown men, visibly battered and seemingly coerced. Shortly after, a letter claiming to be his resignation emerged on social media platforms.

Reacting to the development, the Rivers State Police Command issued a statement condemning the act and confirming that the LG boss is currently receiving treatment for the injuries sustained.

“The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply disturbed by the heinous attack on the Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor,” said the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko.

“On June 20, at about 1:40 pm, a group of about thirty individuals led by Mr. Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer, and the Chief of Staff stormed the council secretariat, assaulted the Administrator, stole his personal belongings, and forced him to sign a resignation letter.”

According to the statement titled “Conspiracy/Violent Attack/Assault Occasioning Harm and Stealing: A Condemnable Act,” police authorities have begun investigating the matter.

Commissioner Adepoju, who visited the council premises alongside other heads of security agencies, has directed the CSO, CoS, and others allegedly involved in the incident to report to the State Police Headquarters at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt for interrogation.

“The Command is resolute in its pursuit of justice,” CP Adepoju stated. “Failure to honor the invitation will attract serious consequences.”

He reiterated the police’s dedication to public safety and called for calm among residents of the state.

“We urge members of the public to remain law-abiding and support ongoing efforts to ensure peace and order,” Iringe-Koko added.

Iheanachor is one of the local administrators appointed by Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the Sole Administrator overseeing the 23 LGAs in Rivers State, following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state by President Bola Tinubu amidst worsening political tensions and attacks on oil facilities.

The Rivers State Police Command assured that it would leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
