The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 19 individuals during a series of coordinated anti-drug operations in various parts of Kano State.

The agency’s Kano Strategic Command conducted the raids in Dorayi, Gwammanja, Zango, and Jaen—areas known for rampant drug-related activities within the Kano metropolis.

Confirming the operation in a statement released on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Command, Sadiq Maigatari, said the arrests were part of the agency’s broader effort to combat drug abuse and related crimes.

“In a decisive move to curb drug trafficking and its associated criminal activities, our operatives apprehended 19 suspects and seized assorted illicit substances during operations across identified hotspots,” Maigatari stated.

According to him, the crackdown reflects the commitment of the NDLEA under the leadership of Commandant CN A.I. Ahmad to protect public safety by addressing drug abuse as a major enabler of criminal behavior.

“This operation underscores our unwavering resolve to dismantle drug joints that serve as breeding grounds for violence, thuggery, and other unlawful acts,” he added.

Maigatari emphasized that the operation specifically targeted areas where individuals reportedly gather to abuse drugs before engaging in criminal activities, thereby disrupting the cycle of drug-related violence in the community.

“Drug abuse is not just a health crisis—it fuels insecurity and lawlessness in our neighborhoods,” he said. “By taking out these enclaves, we are making a clear statement: drug trafficking and consumption will not be tolerated in Kano.”

He also urged the public to collaborate with the agency by sharing useful intelligence and reporting suspicious activities.

“We call on residents to support our efforts by remaining vigilant and proactive in reporting illegal drug activity. Together, we can build a safer and drug-free society,” the statement concluded.

The agency reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum in its fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state.
