Ex-Atalanta coach urges Napoli to sign Super Eagles striker Lookman

Former Atalanta boss, Bortolo Mutti, has backed Napoli to reclaim the Serie A crown next season, if they succeed in signing Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman.

Lookman, who joined Atalanta from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig three years ago, has become one of the standout performers in Serie A and is now reportedly on Napoli’s radar.

New Napoli manager, Antonio Conte is said to be keen on bringing in Lookman as a direct replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who left for European champions Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.

However, the deal might not come easy. While Atalanta are holding out for a €60 million fee, Napoli are currently only prepared to pay €40 million.

Despite the valuation gap, Mutti believes the addition of Lookman would significantly bolster Napoli’s squad.

“Lookman is an immense footballer who is fun and makes you win matches. He always manages to invent the play, he is a fundamental piece for Atalanta,” Mutti told Napoli Magazine.

He added that if Napoli also manage to sign striker Lorenzo Lucca alongside Lookman, they would be favourites for the Scudetto once again.

The 27-year-old Lookman was in scintillating form last season, contributing 20 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta.
