The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a weather forecast indicating that several parts of the country will experience thunderstorms and rainfall from Saturday, June 14, through Monday, June 16, 2025.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, NiMet outlined that northern states such as Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa would witness early morning thunderstorms on Saturday. Later in the day, more widespread thunderstorms are expected across Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi.

The North-Central region will not be spared, as areas including Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory are forecast to experience thunderstorms in the morning, with continued rainfall expected throughout the day in Kwara and Kogi.

“In the Southern region, a cloudy morning is expected, with rains likely over Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Later, isolated thunderstorms and rainfall will affect states such as Imo, Abia, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, and Delta,” the agency stated.

For Sunday, NiMet predicted that thunderstorms would persist, especially in the northern parts of the country including Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi. Similar patterns are expected in the North-Central states and across southern states such as Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.

“Monday will begin with thunderstorms in parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. By the afternoon, rains will spread to Kano, Katsina, Gombe, and Bauchi,” the forecast read.

In a safety advisory, NiMet warned residents to take precautions against the anticipated weather disturbances.

“Strong winds may precede rainfall, especially in thunderstorms. We urge the public to fasten loose objects, avoid driving in heavy rain, and stay clear of tall trees and unstable structures,” the agency cautioned.

It also encouraged citizens to disconnect electrical appliances during storms to prevent electrocution and fire incidents.

Airline operators were not left out of the advisory. NiMet recommended that they obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning and safety.

“Airline operators are strongly advised to liaise with NiMet for accurate flight weather documentation to avoid delays and ensure passenger safety,” the statement added.

NiMet concluded by urging Nigerians to stay updated through its official website and other communication platforms.

“We remain committed to providing timely and reliable weather forecasts to protect lives and property,” the agency assured
