The Nigerian Railway Corporation has assured Nigerians that train services along the Warri-Itakpe corridor remain safe and fully operational, contrary to viral reports suggesting otherwise.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, the acting Deputy Director of Public Relations at NRC, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, dismissed the widely circulated social media message warning commuters to avoid traveling on the route.
The message, accompanied by a video showing removed rail clips, alleged that the train line was unsafe for passengers.
“The public is hereby informed that the claims in the video are completely misleading and baseless,” Unyimadu said.
“There was an isolated incident involving the temporary removal of some rail clips, but it was swiftly discovered during a routine inspection and was immediately fixed by our maintenance team.”
He emphasized that all necessary safety protocols were in place and followed diligently to prevent any threat to passengers or disruption of service.
“The Warri-Itakpe Train Service has since passed through the affected area without incident,” he added. “This further confirms the integrity and safety of the corridor.”
Unyimadu reiterated NRC’s commitment to the highest standards of rail safety and reliability.
“Our tracks and rolling stock are constantly monitored and maintained. Our personnel are trained and equipped to respond to any emerging issues in real time,” he explained.
Urging the public to rely only on verified information from NRC’s official communication channels, he warned against the spread of false information, stating that such actions only serve to sabotage the progress being made in the transport sector.
“We call on Nigerians to disregard the viral video and continue to use our services with full confidence,” he said.
“Train operations along the Warri-Itakpe line and other NRC routes are safe, dependable, and fully functional.”
The NRC advised travelers to stay informed through its official platforms for accurate updates and travel notices.
