A coordinated operation by the Police-led Joint Task Force in Anambra State has led to the raid of a suspected criminal hideout in Agulu-Ezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, resulting in the death of one suspect.
During the early morning operation on Thursday, the task force recovered several suspected stolen items, including an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna with registration number EKY 03 FF, a white unregistered Mazda Hilux, a motorcycle, and a collection of mechanical tools.
Also discovered at the scene were household items such as cooking pots, mattresses, clothing, gallons, food items, and other materials believed to be linked to criminal activity.
In a statement released on Friday in Awka, the state’s Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed details of the operation.
“They razed the identified criminal camp and neutralised one armed hoodlum during the raid in Agulu-Ezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area,” he said.
Ikenga further explained that the operation, which lasted seven hours, involved a fierce exchange of gunfire between the task force and the suspected criminals.
“The operatives recovered the vehicles, motorcycle, tools, and other items listed above, all suspected to be stolen or used in criminal activities,” he added.
According to him, the operation was executed with support from operatives of the Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Anambra Vigilante Group.
He noted that security forces are still scouring the area, following blood trails to locate and apprehend other suspects who managed to flee during the encounter.
