Lagos monarch Olu-Epe Oba Adewale passes away at 86

The Olu of Epe Kingdom,Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, has passed away at the age of 86.

The revered monarch reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025.

As the 19th ruler of the Epe Kingdom, his remains will be laid to rest later today, in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Confirming the monarch’s demise in a conversation with The PUNCH on Saturday, High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, Musiliu Adeniyi, affirmed the development.

“The news is true. It was this morning.
He will be buried 4’O clock today,” Adeniyi said.

Before his coronation, Oba Adewale held the position of Otun-Balogun, ranked as the third-highest chieftaincy title in the kingdom. He was later elevated to Balogun before ascending the throne.

A respected civil servant in his time, the late king was a retired Director of Administration at the Ministry of Education and also served as Executive Secretary in the Ministry of Lands.
