In a series of coordinated operations, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued 23 kidnapped victims across Niger and Enugu States, reaffirming its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the developments in a statement on Friday, highlighting the bravery of officers involved in the missions.

In Niger State, suspected kidnappers attacked Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu villages in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area, abducting five individuals, including one Usman Daina.

“While Usman Daina was released after two days in captivity, sustained efforts by the police and other security operatives led to the rescue of the remaining four victims — Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko — on May 22, 2025,” Adejobi said.

In Enugu State, police operatives attached to the Enugu State Command carried out a tactical raid in the Uvuru-Ukpata forest in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area. This followed the abduction of commuters along the Olo-Umulokpa Road. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the rescue of nine kidnapped individuals.

Prior to that, two victims abducted on May 16 in the Ezimo community were rescued in Amalla-Egazi forest and reunited with their families.

Continuing the offensive, police operatives, in collaboration with local security groups, raided another hideout along the Enugu-Kogi border on May 23. During the operation, one suspected kidnapper was killed, while others fled with gunshot injuries. Eight victims were rescued unharmed during the encounter.

“These operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unrelenting resolve to restore peace and security in troubled regions,” said Adejobi.

Commending the operatives, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised their “bravery, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to duty.”

“We are grateful for the support of local security outfits and vigilant members of the public. Their collaboration has been critical to the success of our operations across the country,” the IGP noted.

Egbetokun reiterated the Police Force’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and ensure that no part of Nigeria becomes a safe haven for criminals.

“Our resolve is clear — we will continue to pursue these criminal elements until they have no place left to hide,” he assured.
