Former Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney, has urged the club to re-sign Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea ahead of the upcoming season.

Current number one Andre Onana has faced widespread criticism from fans due to a string of high-profile errors and inconsistent performances since joining the club.

The 29-year-old has often been blamed for the team’s defensive struggles, with many supporters calling for his replacement.

Onana, who has endured a tough debut campaign, may even consider an exit after enduring relentless scrutiny.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport, Rooney made his stance clear, expressing his desire to see De Gea return between the sticks for the Red Devils.

“I’d sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he would do an amazing job,” Rooney said.

De Gea, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford, claimed one Premier League title and was named United’s Player of the Season four times, a feat only matched by Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
