In a thrilling clash on Wednesday night, Tadeo Allende netted a brace to help Inter Miami secure a 3-3 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes, marking Lionel Messi’s debut appearance in the Bay Area since his move to Major League Soccer.
Allende found the net in the first half and struck again in the 52nd minute, leveling the score by tapping in a pass from Baltasar Rodríguez—on a sequence Messi helped orchestrate.
Maximiliano Falcón also got on the scoresheet for Miami, who have now conceded three or more goals in three of their past four outings. San Jose responded with goals from Cristian Arango, Beau Leroux, and Ian Harkes, extending their unbeaten run to three matches.
Messi nearly grabbed a late winner in stoppage time but was denied at close range by goalkeeper Daniel De Sousa Britto.
Moments later, he was brought down just outside the penalty area with no foul given,prompting a heated exchange with the referee.
The Argentine star was shown a yellow card during the confrontation and had to be led away by Earthquakes coach Bruce Arena.
