Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, have apprehended a 35-year-old man, Obi Emmanuel, in connection with an illegal drug operation in the Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

Emmanuel was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, right in front of a chemist shop in Ayetoro, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.

The Director of Intelligence and Investigation, Shodeke Sholanke, in a statement made available to journalists, disclosed that the arrest stemmed from actionable intelligence received by the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

According to Sholanke, the suspect had recruited a commercial driver, known as Alausa, to transport the illicit substances from Abeokuta to Ayetoro.

The driver, who operates an 18-seater Mazda bus, was intercepted by NDLEA officers on Wednesday along the Abeokuta-Ayetoro highway.

Upon interrogation, the driver reportedly confessed that the drugs belonged to Emmanuel, prompting a follow-up operation by Amotekun personnel, who acted swiftly based on NDLEA’s intelligence tip-off.

“The arrest came on the heels of credible intelligence received by the Ogun State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), suggesting that Emmanuel was orchestrating drug deals in the region, and had enlisted the help of a commercial driver, popularly referred to as Alausa, who is currently in NDLEA custody.

“During questioning, the driver revealed that Emmanuel was the owner of the seized items, leading to the swift action of Amotekun operatives after an intelligence was equally received from the State NDLEA, which resulted in Emmanuel’s capture,” the statement read.

The suspect has since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and potential prosecution.

Amotekun has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could compromise community safety.

The agency also reaffirmed its dedication to partnering with the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and abuse across the state, emphasizing that the latest operation highlights its resolve to cleanse the society of drug-related crime.
