Hundreds of protesters flooded major roads in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, joining the nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship.

The protesters, mostly youths and women, marched through the city, defying morning showers, and carried placards with inscriptions like “Kill corruption before corruption kills us all” and “We are dying of hunger in our own country”.

They demanded action from the government to address the high cost of living, hunger, and poverty, according to TheWill.

Reports emerged of hoodlums attacking protesters around the Biogbolo axis, but the protest remained largely peaceful.

Heavy security deployment was observed at strategic locations, with few civil servants reporting to work despite a government directive.

Many shops, businesses, and financial institutions remained closed, with owners citing fear of attack or vandalism.

Many blamed the Federal Government’s economic policies for the widespread hunger and urged President Bola Tinubu to rescind them.

The protesters chanted solidarity songs and carried placards with various inscriptions such as “Kill corruption before corruption kills us all”, “Restore fuel subsidy and reduce the price of petroleum products now”, “We are dying of hunger in our own country”, “We are suffering so much now”, “We can no longer feed our children”, and “Give us affordable education and healthcare” among others.
