The spokesman for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, Sunusi Bature, has described the ongoing emirate crisis as a “fight to finish”.
Speaking on an Arise TV program, Bature acknowledged the 15th Emir, Aminu Bayero, as a respected indigene of the state, but stated that his actions do not align with his personality.
Bature claimed that the police have taken sides and are not following the Governor’s orders.
He alleged that Aminu Bayero was convinced by politicians to return to Kano and challenge the Governor’s decision.
The spokesman emphasized that the Governor has the constitutional right to appoint, depose, or reinstate an Emir, and they will exercise this right no matter how long it takes.
This statement comes as the emirate crisis continues to escalate, with both sides showing no signs of backing down. The situation has raised concerns about the stability and security of the state.
He said, “Aminu Bayero is an indigene of Kano, well respected and we don’t want anything to happen to him. He is not under any pressure to leave the state. As a very important personality, he has the right to move anywhere.
“The police have taken side at the moment and they seem not to be taking orders from the Governor.
“First of all, when Aminu arrived at midnight at a time when he and his family vacated the main palace, they took all their belongings from the main palace but he was convinced by some unpatriotic politicians to return to Kano and give a fight.
“For us, it’s a fight to finish because the Governor has the right to dethrone Emir, to reappoint Emir, to appoint a new emir or reinstate. He has the constitutional right and nobody can take that from him. Even if it will take us 100 years the governor has that exclusive right to depose or appoint a new emir.”
