The Independent National Electoral Commission has revealed that a total of 5,409,438 registered voters will participate in the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States.
According to Daily Trust, the breakdown of registered voters is as follows: 1,056,862 in Bayelsa State, 2,419,922 in Imo State, and 1,932,654 in Kogi State.
The National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Mr. Sam Olumekun, provided this information during a regular meeting in Abuja.
The meeting reviewed preparations for the off-cycle governorship elections in the three states.
As part of the preparations, INEC will conduct a mock accreditation exercise in selected polling units on Saturday, October 14, across the three states.
Mr. Olumekun emphasized, “Soft copies of the complete register of voters for each state will be presented to the political parties participating in the elections. Sixteen political parties are sponsoring candidates in Bayelsa State, 17 in Imo State, and all 18 parties in Kogi State.”
The state chairmen of political parties or their designated representatives have been invited to attend the event, which will take place at the collation centers in the state headquarters of the commission in Lokoja, Owerri, and Yenagoa on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 10:00 am.
INEC has focused on deploying technology for voter accreditation and result management. To this end, the commission will conduct mock voter accreditation exercises in the three states to test the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and uploading of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
The mock accreditation of voters will occur simultaneously in the three states on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. It is a test run of the BVAS and IReV to ensure a smooth deployment on election day.
Mr. Olumekun urged registered voters in the selected PUs to participate in the exercise with their permanent voter cards.
