22-year-old Enugu woman commits suicide over heartbreak

Tragedy struck in Enugu over the weekend following the death of a 22-year-old hairstylist, Miss Odama Mary Agado, who allegedly took her own life after catching her boyfriend with another woman.

Mary, a native of Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, reportedly ingested a poisonous substance believed to be sniper shortly after the heartbreaking incident.

According to close family sources, the deceased had been thriving in her hairstyling business in Enugu. She was described as hardworking and generous, having recently bought a car and even rented an apartment for her boyfriend.

Tragedy, however, unfolded when Mary visited the said boyfriend last Friday and met him with another lady in the same apartment she had paid for.

“She was deeply hurt and stormed out of the place,” a family member identified as Daniel recounted. “When she got home, she called her mother and narrated what happened. She told her to take heart because she wouldn’t live any longer.”

Daniel explained that Mary’s mother, who reportedly had no airtime to call her back, was unable to intervene.

Moments later, she received a distressing call that her daughter had consumed poison and had been rushed to the hospital.

Despite efforts by medical personnel, Mary was pronounced dead later that evening.

Her remains were transported to her hometown in Yala, where she was buried on Saturday.

“Once her body arrived, we buried her immediately. She was too young to be kept for a formal burial ceremony,” Daniel said with grief.

The family reportedly did not involve the police, maintaining that the young woman took her own life.

“We’re still in shock,” Daniel added. “No one understands why she would end her life over a relationship. Some say she might have been under spiritual influence, but at this point, blaming anyone changes nothing. We’ve lost her.”.
