The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Senator David Mark, has raised concerns over alleged plans by the current administration to use the judiciary to undermine the party’s growing influence.

Mark issued the warning in Abuja during a visit by the ADC’s National Legal Support Group, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman. The group disclosed that 310 lawyers have volunteered to defend the party in ongoing and future legal battles nationwide.

Abdurrahman stated that the legal team, which has representation across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, is fully mobilized to counter any legal threats. The team includes prominent figures such as the ADC’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Peter Oyewole; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN); and former Edo State Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman said.

He added that the lawyers have confidence in the party’s leadership to drive meaningful national development and praised Senator Mark’s integrity, urging him to leverage his experience to elevate the ADC’s prominence. Abdurrahman also called on the party’s Legal Adviser to provide necessary documents for seamless coordination.

In response, Barrister Oyewole assured that all legal processes surrounding the ADC’s recent coalition were duly followed. “There is no cause for alarm,” he stated.

However, Senator Mark remained cautious, warning of potential judicial interference. “ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” he said.

He appealed to Nigerians to back the ADC as a credible alternative and commended the legal team for their commitment, urging vigilance as the party strengthens its position ahead of the 2027 elections.

With an expanding grassroots base and a robust legal framework, the ADC says it is poised to safeguard its vision and compete strongly in the upcoming political contest.
