2027: Pack your things, prepare to leave, Melaye tells Tinubu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dino Melaye, has urged President Bola Tinubu and members of his family to prepare to vacate the Presidential Villa, expressing confidence that the opposition party will defeat the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

Melaye made the statement during an interview with Arise TV on Monday, where he accused the Tinubu administration of worsening hardship, insecurity, killings and other challenges facing Nigerians.

According to the former senator, the ADC’s chances of winning the 2027 election were strong because Nigerians were dissatisfied with the current government.

“The winning strategy for the ADC is very simple. The people are with us. The people are tired of maladministration,” Melaye said.

He also criticised the government over its borrowing and budget implementation, alleging that some contracts awarded in 2024 remained unpaid.

Melaye said, “You say you borrowed money to run the budget. You have borrowed the money. You have collected the money. But the budget has not been run. The budget has not been funded.”

He argued that the alleged hardship and insecurity had created a disconnect between the government and the people.

The ADC chieftain further accused the administration of making Nigerians fearful of government, rather than being responsive to their concerns.

“But under Tinubu administration, people are afraid of government because they are so brazen, they are so wicked, they are so nonchalant, they don’t give a damn,” he said.

Melaye also criticised comments he attributed to President Tinubu concerning political activities, alleging that the President had suggested that practices such as rigging, violence and ballot snatching were acceptable.

He said such remarks were inappropriate for a president who should serve as an example to younger Nigerians.

Looking ahead to the 2027 election, Melaye predicted a change of government and urged Tinubu and his family to begin preparations to leave the Presidential Villa.

“And I’m telling you that the results will tell in January. The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage and things from the villa, including those in the boys’ quarters of the villa, because there will be a change of government,” he said.

Melaye left the Peoples Democratic Party in July 2025 and joined the ADC. He has since emerged as one of the prominent voices in the opposition party and has been involved in its political and legal battles.
