The prestigious Ballon d’Or awards, organized by France Football and L’Équipe, will be held on September 22, 2025, returning to the iconic Châtelet Theatre in Paris.
This year’s edition introduces a notable innovation: all men’s award categories will now also be mirrored for women.
According to France Football, the list of nominees for the Ballon d’Or and other related accolades will be unveiled in early August, although the exact date remains unconfirmed.
The voting procedure remains consistent with previous editions. For the men’s Ballon d’Or, 100 journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries will cast their votes.
In the women’s category, 50 journalists from the top 50 nations will participate. Each journalist will select a top ten, with each ranking position earning specific points.
The player accumulating the highest number of points will be declared the winner.
France Football also revealed a refinement in the selection criteria. Going forward, three main factors will determine a player’s eligibility.
These include, individual performance and the player’s impact; team achievements and collective trophies; and lastly, class and fair play.
Notably, past career achievements will no longer be considered in this year’s evaluation.
