The Independent National Electoral Commission has promised to tackle vote buying during the next general elections in the country.

According to The PUNCH, this was stated by the Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, in Abuja on Monday.

In his welcome speech, Yakubu bemoaned the actions of moneybags, who, in his words, were desperate to undermine the will of the people at every election cycle.

He added, however, that the Commission would work with security agencies to make every effort to prevent the use of money to undermine the will of the people in the elections of 2023.

He reminded political businessmen that elections were civilized ways to choose leaders for the various levels of government, not profitable business endeavors.

In the meantime, Yakubu stated that the commission was prepared to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with stakeholders in the transportation industry today (Monday) for the provision of vehicles during the elections.
