A 19-year-old man, Samuel Joseph, was on Thursday remanded in custody by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for attempting to steal property belonging to a church in Lagos State.
Joseph pleaded guilty to a one count of attempted stealing before Magistrate Lateef Owolabi.
Following his plea, Magistrate Owolabi ordered the defendant’s remand and adjourned the case until July 22 for further proceedings.
The decision came after the court heard the review of facts presented by the Prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere.
Ikhayere told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 24 at the First African Church, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, where he was caught inside the premises.
“The defendant gained access into the church premises with the intention to steal some property, including a Haier Thermocool air conditioner valued at N250,000,” the prosecutor said.
She stated that the offence violates Sections 287 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which deal with stealing and attempted stealing, respectively.
The case has been adjourned for sentencing or further hearing.
