The Kwara State Government has announced the release of victims abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through a post on the state government’s official Facebook page, bringing an end to months of uncertainty after 176 residents were taken hostage.
In its statement, the government said, “Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”
The mass abduction occurred when suspected Boko Haram-linked militants stormed the two rural communities on motorcycles, carrying out a coordinated attack that reportedly lasted for several hours.
The assault, described as one of the deadliest incidents in Kwara State’s history, reportedly left more than 200 people dead, injured several others, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced many residents.
Local vigilantes who attempted to resist the attackers were said to have been overpowered, with reports indicating that some were trapped and burnt inside their office during the attack.
Although the government confirmed that the abducted victims had regained their freedom, it did not disclose the circumstances surrounding their release.
Further details were still being awaited as of the time of filing the report.
